About Us

Our Story

Following God's prompting in December of 2012, Pastor Jeremy H. Upton, founded the Refuge Church in the south Miami-Dade area. With a vision to serve God, each other, and its community in Biblical, Balanced, and Beneficial ways, the City of Refuge is already making its mark for the Kingdom of God.

We are a Spirit-filled, Kingdom-oriented church that seek to meet the needs of our community in relevant, transformative, and impactful ways for Jesus Christ.

At the Refuge Church, it's okay to not be okay. But it's NOT okay to stay that way!

Our Mission

The Refuge Church exists to glorify God by exposing everyone to Jesus Christ, equipping Jesus-followers for life and ministry, and empowering them for Kingdom operation.

We seek to be "A SAFE PLACE for people on their way to destiny!"

Our Vision

To be a church of Kingdom impact on the people and families of Miami-Dade County.

Our vision is to be a multi-generational, multi-ethnic, and multi-locational church that is not far from wherever you are.

Towards that goal, in 2017 we have adopted the theme: "About That Life" (John 10:10).  This year, we are about that life: pursuing the Kingdom, pursuing the unchurched, and pursuing maturity in Christ.

Our Values

  • Biblical: governed & guided by Biblical commands & principle; the content of our teaching & preaching
  • Balanced: in theology, in practice, in activities
  • Beneficial: here to help people grow in Christ, here to help each other, here to help our community & our city
